SCSE Freshmen Orientation 2017

Published on: 26-Oct-2017

The University and School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) warmly welcomed our freshmen during the SCSE Freshmen Orientation 2017 and the Freshmen Welcome Ceremony (FWC) on the first day of the orientation.

The orientation programme was held over a period of 4 days from the 8 to the 12 August. With the help of student leaders from the school they were also familiarized with the various facilities within the University through a campus tour. The University FWC was held at the Nanyang Auditorium where the University officially welcomes all freshmen. This is an important rite of passage for freshmen to be inducted into the University. After the ceremony the freshmen were also welcomed by the SCSE Chair and Associate Chairs, sharing on the SCSE programme and experiences at LT2A. The freshmen were also introduced to the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Club and they shared with the freshmen on the vibrant campus life and the numerous student led activities and events that they can fondly look forward to.

During the second day, the freshmen were introduced to their classmates in a light hearted way using various fun games and activities as well as being briefed on the school’s academic and support system. This was done in conjunction with other departments and offices; namely: Student Wellbeing Centre (SWC), Career Attachment Office (CAO), Office of Global Education and Mobility (OGEM) and Overseas Entrepreneurship Programme (OEP), coming together to share with them on career planning and the spirit of giving.

On the third Day, there were various fun games and activities for the freshmen to get to know their peers and seniors and the highlight were the field games and activities. They had an interactive time playing and pitting against other Orientation Groups (OGs) in Bubble Soccer and Archery Tag. The group bonded through their group identities; namely: Centaur, Griffin, Ladon, Lycan, Siren and Thyphoeus. They had an enjoyable time.

The freshmen had their off-campus orientation activities on Sentosa during the last day – the fourth day, with beach games.

The freshmen also received their attractive freshmen welcome pack to commemorate their successful induction into the NTU's SCSE fraternity. They forged new ties and warmly embraced the new environment and earnestly looking forward to the challenges ahead.
