The team from Cyber Security Lab received an ACM Distinguished Paper Award for their paper ‘Large-Scale Analysis of Framework-Specific Exceptions in Android Apps’ at the 40th International Conference on Software Engineering, May 27 - 3 June 2018, Gothenburg, Sweden.
ICSE, the International Conference on Software Engineering, is the premier software engineering conference, providing a forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, research, experiences, trends and concerns in the field of Software engineering.
The main authors are four research staff and one faculty member. They are Ms Fan Lingling, Mr Chen Sen, Dr Su Ting, Dr Meng Guozhu and Assoc Prof Liu Yang. The team provided the largest and most comprehensive fault study to date for Android apps. They analysed 8,243 framework-specific exceptions in terms of root causes, manifestation and fixes, which took six-person months; provided very useful insights to guide developers, and motivated several follow-up research in bug detection, fault localization and program repair; and developed two state-of-the-art bug detection and analysis tools, Stoat+ and Exlocator, for Android apps.
